Under Sultan Bolkiah, the Kingdom of Brunei underwent several developments in four main aspects. These aspects are also considered as the main features of a Golden Age.

1. PEACE AND STABILITY

Sultan Bolkiah was a strong ruler and united the various tribes and kingdoms in his empire. This created peace and stability throughout the region.

2. TRADE & WEALTH

He encouraged trade thus attracted many ships from other countries to trade in his region. This generated income for his people thus Brunei became wealthy and prosperous.

3. NEW IDEAS & CONTACTS

He strengthened contacts with neighbouring kingdoms by welcoming foreigners and travelling outside of Brunei. His contacts with the outside world generated new ideas to build and improve his empire.

4. CONQUEST & EXPANSION

Conquering smaller kingdoms and marrying princesses from neighbouring countries had helped to develop stronger alliances and expand his empire further.
